From my first flute lessons among the stainless steel industrial ovens and counters of my elementary school's boomy kitchen, I have followed my curiosity about music in an intuitive and sometimes haphazard way that has always led me to wonderful, creative people. My teachers were excellent role models, and I can not thank them enough for the care they took in both guiding me and letting me take my own path. My friends and family have always been a supportive presence in my life. (My mom convinced me not to quit the flute in fourth grade. That same year I convinced my friend that it would not be a good idea to put our flutes in the dishwasher.)

I have participated in many kinds of musical ensembles. After playing in orchestras, jazz combos, digital music ensembles, large free-improvisation ensembles, and new music ensembles, I have decided that Alarm Will Sound is my musical home. This ensemble strikes a perfect blend of spontaneity, high performance standards, and careful, intellectual curiosity about music; I could not be happier.

I am passionate about many aspects of the arts and enjoy working in the field of arts administration. I am the Communications and Development Assistant at a wonderful community music school called the Thurnauer School of Music in Tenafly, NJ.

My professional hobby is fixing flutes. I studied with the fabulous flute maker Jonathon Landell in Vermont and run a little flute repair business in northern New Jersey (www.jessicasfluterepair.com).
