In Solidarity

We in Alarm Will Sound are angered and saddened by the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, only the most recent victims of racism in a centuries-long history of violence against black and brown people in our country.

We recognize that our world of classical music participates in that racism. We will continually teach ourselves how to fight unjust power structures. We will learn from our mistakes. We will use our platforms, our power, and our privilege to create change in and out of the concert hall.

We will do these things because the imagination that makes new music is the same imagination that is capable of building inclusive practices, policies, and institutions; because the experience of listening to music and listening to people holds us together and lifts us up; and because these things are as necessary as music.

We encourage all of you to join the fight for justice and equality and against police brutality, and to support organizations that are engaged in this struggle, such as:

ACLU
Black Lives Matter
Brooklyn Community Bail Fund
Black Visions Collective
Minnesota Freedom Fund
Reclaim the Block
Unicorn Riot
We The Protesters

We hope you all stay safe.

Sincerely,
Gavin Chuck, Executive Director
